Teachers

Technology is becoming a dependency of teachers.
Teachers both have positive and negative feelings towards technology in the classroom. Many find that technology is very useful for organizational purposes but not for teaching purposes, college professors love using technology for organizational purposes and to teach when teaching to a large number of students. School systems are now providing technology to students and teachers, while the teachers love the technology at their disposal the same technology should not be in the hands of the students. Students are subject to use that technology for other purposes and normally do. Also some teachers condone the usage of technology to teach because of its natural characteristic of entertainment to teach but revert back to paper to take tests and see what the students are learning. Teachers are often supporters of technology in the classroom to improve the learning experience and to be effective they must regulate the hands the technology ends up in.

Classroom

In the following video, teachers answer questions concerning the effects technology has made on their students in math class. While technology has been helpful they effectively point out a few examples of how technology has a negative effect on students. In the first thirty seconds of the video, one teacher has already addressed that because of calculators children in her 7th Grade class can not even do multiplication; and also goes on to say that in her opinion "the calculator has been introduced way too early" (Seventh). The teachers go on to explain how sad it is that they get students in the 7th Grade that do not even understand the number sense behind mutiplication; and that its reciprocal is division. The teacher goes on to say that calculators have somewhat "crippled" students because of their ability to do the work for the students.

Teachers loving there new iPads.
During my research, it was discovered that not only have students become dependent on technology; but teachers also for the advantages it provides them. Teachers love technological devices that assist them in doing everyday tasks in the classroom such as: whiteboards, projectors, and numerous software programs. While the teachers use of technology is being used for the good,  it is also causing somewhat a problem seeing that most of the devices they receive can be retrieved by students and strengthens students desire for that product. For example, in a recent Chattanooga newspaper a writer expressed how teachers love the new advancements of technology; specifically the teachers in the article where raving about the new iPad 2. While iPads provide a more manageable way to do a number of tasks; it is also a device that any student with the money can go out and purchase themselves along with the same apps. Teachers have always had access to technology to access them since technology has been around but spending "$65,000" alone on handheld tablets is risky and dangerous when the students can get their hands on the same technology.
